Why Start Happy Mom Happy Kid?
As a working mom, balancing a career, parenting, and household responsibilities has always been a challenge. There are moments when my daughter is off school, and I still have work to finish. To keep her occupied, I’ve often had to turn on the TV or hand her an iPad while I worked or cooked dinner. In those moments, I’ve felt a pang of guilt—wishing she could spend that time learning or creating instead of just passively consuming.
I realized I wasn’t alone in this “mom guilt.” Friends and coworkers shared similar struggles, and this became a driving force for me to create Happy Mom, Happy Kid—a STEM toy brand designed to help working moms like me provide engaging, high-quality toys that inspire learning and creativity. My goal is simple: to make it easier for moms to feel confident their kids are growing and learning while they take care of everything else.
By day, I’m a mom in tech—a product manager working in the rapidly evolving world of AI. In my 11 years in tech, I’ve never seen a field evolve as quickly as AI. Watching this transformation made me think deeply about how I can prepare my daughter for a future shaped by AI. What skills will truly help her thrive? What knowledge might already be outdated, replaced by AI? And how can I help her focus on learning what really matters?
From my experience, problem-solving skills stand out as the most crucial foundation for the future. In my work, launching an AI product involves breaking down large goals into smaller, manageable steps and collaborating with diverse teams to achieve them. That’s why I chose to start with buildable electronic kits. These toys teach kids how to break down complex projects into simpler steps, encouraging them to create amazing things—like building a video player or an electric fan. This process nurtures the mindset they’ll need to tackle challenges in any field.
I’ve also sent my daughter to coding school from a young age, sparking curiosity from other moms: “Why teach kids coding when AI can code?” Here’s my perspective:
- Logical thinking matters more than syntax: Coding trains kids to understand the logic behind the code and the functions it enables, a mindset that AI can’t replace.
- Coding as a universal language: Just as English became the global language of communication, coding may soon become the second international language. Understanding it will empower kids to work with AI more effectively.
- Confidence with technology: Early exposure to coding helps kids feel comfortable, not intimidated, by tech, setting them up for a future where technology will be everywhere.
After launching our buildable STEM kits, I’m excited to develop toys for younger children that introduce them to coding concepts in a fun and approachable way. My vision for Happy Mom, Happy Kid is to bridge my real-world insights from the AI industry into toys that help prepare the next generation for the future.
This isn’t just a brand; it’s a community of parents and educators working together to inspire kids to dream, build, and thrive in a world shaped by technology. Let’s prepare our children for the AI generation—one thoughtful toy at a time.
